Mary Reid Barrow Wildlife Advocate Award

The 'Mary Reid Barrow Wildlife Advocate Award' was created to recognize those in our community who are dedicated to educating, celebrating, and advocating for local wildlife on a daily basis. Nominate a candidate who exemplifies this award by December 1, 2024. For additional information, visit Winter Wildlife Festival.

Current committee members are not eligible. All nominees must be over 18 years old and must have completed their work in the Hampton Roads/Eastern Shore area. The Winter Wildlife Festival Committee will review all nominations, select the winner and announce the 2025 award recipient during the festival week, January 25 – February 2, 2025.

Named after Mary Reid Barrow, who devoted her entire career to engaging the public about our natural environment, the Wildlife Advocate Award was created in 2020 as a way to honor those in our community that strive to make a difference for wildlife and the environment. Barrow's weekly columns made nature relatable to the average person and she was a gentle, but tireless, advocate for wildlife. She continues to serve the community through her involvement with environmental non-profits and campaigns. Please tell us how your nominee embodies these qualities and why they should receive this award named in her honor (500 word limit).
